And the Rocks Cried Out
Who can say the reason,
Who can know just why-
My heart bleeds with granite tears
As love erodes and dies.
My heart beats like a solid stone
With pummeled bits of sand,
Breaking off in pebbled flecks,
Then shaken from your hand.
And my mica colored, shining dreams
Are carried by the wind
To scatter to a far-off place
Where love can never end.
But from the bedrock of my soul
Gray limestone prints abound
Fossilized forever there,
Where once our love was found
