Chasing The Sinking Fox
Like rag men, marching home,
Our men came back from war,
Imprinted by the battle cry
And creed that they fought for,
Hollowed eyes and slack jaws
And shuffled steps to home,
To warm beds, warm food
And nightmares where they've roamed.
Apocalyptic horrors
And deeds too sad to tell,
Live within their heartbeats,
Footnotes from life in Hell.
Infantry to infantry,
Chasing the Sinking Fox,
From Luxembourg to Viet Nam,
And anywhere that mocks-
True Liberty and Freedom,
Our Democratic Dream,
Aptly bought by precious blood
And offerings unseen.
So hold them close, within your heart,
Our Liberty's Defender,
Until from this Life,
They depart,
Their only True Surrender!
