Hymn of My Heart
I am a woman alone.
A gathering of goldenrods
And clover bow at my feet.
I listen to Earth's song,
And sing its hymn,
Like the wind in the pines,
Or a lark,
From his nook in the meadow.
I sing
When honey-colored days
Wrap warmth around my soul,
Or gray, maudlin days
Push a cold, harsh wind into my spirit.
When I rise on a winter morn,
I sing a song of snow.
I sing a song of golden leaves,
When Autumn beckons
The first silver frost
To blanket the sleepy ground.
When the storms of Life come,
Shaking my foundations
I sing
With the reverberating
Drums of thunder,
The rhythm only makes me stronger.
I am a woman alone.
Listen to the song of my spirit.
I sing
A hymn of truth,
Born of sorrow,
Born of joy,
An anthem of faith.
