Into the River’s
Heart
The rock I loved
has crumbled,
A thousand
pieces scattered round.
What stood in
silent beauty
Now lays
shattered on the ground.
What beckoned,
so beguiling,
Living colors
pulsed its veins,
Was only sand
and water
From a river I
can’t name.
I never should
have touched it
Or thought it
could be mine,
Its soul was in
the river
That fate would
leave behind.
Its marrow
formed in water,
The
currents made it shine.
The wind and
stars and fireflies
Carved the
layers and defined…
I gather up a
single shard
So cool against
my skin,
And throw it in
the river’s heart
Where it can
live again…
